Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. 1 Kings 18:38
Our God is the God who reveals Himself in the likeness of fire “And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day” (Isaiah 10:17). The fire of God is God visiting His people as the fire: “For our God is a consuming fire” (Hebrews 12:29). An encounter with the fire of God can bring back your lost glory. The outpouring of the Holy Spirit came upon the apostles like fire, to transform and empower them for exploits (Acts 2:1-4). We all need the fire of God.
Keys to encountering the fire of God.
- Desperate prayer for fire: “O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; To see thy power and thy glory” (Psalm 63:1-2). Elijah prayed severally for fire and God answered him.
- Drastic seed sowing and sacrifice: Elijah raised an altar of sacrifice unto God and the fire of God fell (1 Kings 18:31-38).
- Dig deep for light in God’s Word. God’s Word is a divine fire element in itself. “Is not my word like as a fire? …” (Jeremiah 23:29).
Beloved, we need the fire of God repeatedly and continually.
